Five Americans on the loose at the Cannes Film Festival the ambitious intern resolved to sleep her way to the bottom; the actor who winds up spending seven nights in different beds; the publicist whose job is to make sure the studio’s film does not win an award; the gay head of publicity involuntarily channeling Golda Meir; and, back for an encore (after The Deal and The Manhattan Beach Project), the peripatetic Charlie Berns, peddling the rights to a film he doesn’t own to people with no money. Meanwhile, everyone in France – from the hookers to the Perrier drivers – decides to go on strike. The merde hits the fan. Big time.

First: I am reviewing Peter Lefcourt's new novel by comparing it to his previous novels, not novels in general.Peter Lefcourt's newest full-length novel, "Le Jet Lag", appears to be available only in E-form. And for the very reasonable price of $3.99. Another novel, "An American Family", by Lefcourt was also released only in E-form and that book was outstanding at any price. If you like Lefcourt's writing, please read the reviews.
In "Le Jet Lag", Lefcourt has returned to his Hollywood Charlie Berns series. Ol' Charlie's in Cannes, trying to find finishing finance for an independent film he's making. The film's plot and characters seem to change to favor anyone who Charlie's asking money from. Nominally about WW1 and the Battle of the Somme, the film winds up looking more like "Broke Back Mountain" than "All Quiet on the Western Front". How Charlie gets his financing and movie made is one of the funniest parts of "Le Jet Lag". But Charlie is joined in the somewhat more seedy part of the Riviera by other filmakers, actors, and hangers-on, all aiming to gain both fame and future employment in the film industry. Since all the characters seem to be living on air instead of money, made all the more difficult by the on-going French workers strikes that have hit the Riviera just in time to wreake the most havoc on the largest number of people, the five or so main characters who interact in the novel are very entertaining. Add to the plot a "gossip sheet" report on what's happening in Cannes, and the reader who either loves Peter Lefcourt's writing or Hollywood or both, will be very glad they found this ebook.

Le Jet Lag edition by Peter Lefcourt Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Another funny book from lefcourt. Undemanding and clever skewering of Hollywood. Carries in where The Deal left off. You'll smile.
A moving (and at times hilarious) look at Hollywood at the Cannes Film Festival, with a cast of unforgettable characters.
Not up to the standards of The Deal, but still fun and enjoyable. No one does Hollywood like Lefcourt. His world is sexy and always power hungry.
Lefcourt is on target as usual with his humorous, satiric slant on the lives of the rich and infamous. In a culture where humor strives to the lowest common deminator, it's a pleasure to read an author who expects some intelligence from his readers. Thank you!
If you hate to love Hollywood or love to hate the French, this is the book for you. Novelist Peter Lefcourt takes us on a wild ride to the Cannes Film Festival with his usual ingeniously comic story telling. He manages to capture the manic energy of the annual bacchanal in the south of France through the lens of several Americans with diverse and conflicting agendas. He even brings back the intrepid producer, Charlie Berns, who is hustling harder than ever. Readers of "The Deal" and "The Manhattan Beach Project" will be happy to learn that Charlie has his tap shoes back on. And far as the French are concerned, they may never let him in the country again. A terrific read. Maybe Lefcourt's best book.
Lefcourt's books are all good and this is no exception. It is a funny, knowing, and utterly horrifying tale of Hollywood on the French Riviera during the two weeks of the Canne Film Festival. This is fourteen days of show biz at its best/worst from a cast of slo-mo accident characters that you cannot take your eyes from. I spent thirty years in that biz and Lefcourt, as usual, has it right and is laugh-out-loud clever about its portrayal. This was my first ebook and I made the switch simply because I could not get it in regular book form. Viva la !
Disclaimer I'm a huge Peter Lefcourt fan. The man never fails to write an amazing book, even his non-satire work keeps me turning pages. He's truly the greatest author I have ever known.
With that confession out of the way, Le Jet Lag is straight up international satire. Charlie Berns, our hero from books such as the incredible Manhattan Beach Project and The Deal, is back with a movie to sell. He's landed in Cannes to sell this thing and as always things never quite go the way they want. Le Jet Lag has everything from the Peter Lefcourt school of character development
An ex-CIA spy
A gay Yoruba prince from Nigeria
A blonde intern who uses the fact she's 1/16th Native American to boost her career
A reporter for a half-baked internet movie blog determined to get laid
A gay Hollywood PR executive who thinks he's being haunted by Golda Meir
His assistant, a no-nonsense PR exec who is determined to make things work
A washed up soap star that can't find a hotel room
Movie starts and more movie stars..
And let's not forget that EVERYONE is going on strike Prostitutes who have formed a union "Confederation Liberale Independante de Travailleuses Sexuelles", cab drivers, waiters, and just about anyone else who makes the city run..
It's epic. If you thought Hollywood was nuts before, this will confirm for you in spades and keep you laughing for hours and hours. The best part You'll spend days looking for ways to slip the phrase désolé into everyday conversation. It's great. Peter Lefcourt is a genius.
